“Songs for Syrians” is a music and dance program designed for Syrian refugee children living in Jordan. Launched in partnership with The Syria Fund in 2016, this SCS project now reaches over 200 children across 4 refugee schools in Jordan (1 through the South Azraq Women's Association and 3 through the Middle East Children’s Institute in Salt).

Music teacher Owais Omari uses Nina’s and Matilda’s innovative approach to group instruction on a bi-weekly basis. Classes rely on instrumental music, song, and dance to teach elements of melody, rhythm, and composition/improvisation. Annual SCS trips culminate in a concert-celebration for the wider community featuring Syrian students, teachers, and local musicians who perform both traditional Syrian songs and ones brought from the U.S. Teaching Artists integrate this program within their classrooms back at home by connecting U.S. students with Syrian children and learning traditional Syrian melodies.
